This document is a prerequisite for INFO 1998: Intro to Digital Product Design, taught by Cornell AppDev. Check out Course Syllabus for instructions on how to enroll and Course Policies for more details.

Why an application?

We love design and appreciate that so many students show interest in our class. Unfortunately, we only have a small number of TAs, which limits our ability to provide high-quality, individualized feedback while also supporting a large class size. The assignment will familiarize you with tools we will be using throughout the semester and helps us determine your effort and investment into the course.

<aside> ❗ This assignment will be judged only on completion of the requirements and effort, not on skill level. We encourage all students to apply and enroll, whether you're a beginner or a professional.

🤓 Overview

Assignment 0 will give you a taste of the class and show you examples of what you'll learn by the end of the course. The assignment is split into 3 parts:

  1. Learning how to use Notion
  2. Learning how to use Figma and designing a simple screen
  3. Reflecting on some previous case studies from this class

Required time to complete

The assignment takes a different amount of time for everyone. If you think that you will not have time to complete the assignment or take this course, please feel free to take it another semester or audit the course. Intro to Digital Product Design is offered both in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Part I: Notion Tutorial

The page you're reading right now was made with Notion. Notion is an all-in-one workspace that helps you keep lots of different things in one place. In this part, we'll go through a short Notion tutorial to get you started and prepare you for the first day of class.
